Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)

Early in the film, Godzilla comes ashore near a water park and aquarium. At a nearby elementary school, the camera peers into a classroom from outside. An alarm sounds. The teacher tells the students to get ready to leave class. The kids start squealing.................

Then a flash.

Then dead silence. The kids all turn to look out the window. The teacher turns, too. She looks out the window in shock, and moves toward it.

The camera now shows us what they see out the window: In the distance, a mushroom cloud rises. Godzilla has used his radioactive breath on the town.

For Japanese, this scene is horrific. Godzilla is associated with the atomic bomb. The great irradiator. The devastator. The destructor. Hiroshima.

It's one of the most incredibly effective scenes in a film I've ever seen.
