For years, my mom bought canned cranberry jelly. I'm not sure why. Home-made cranberry sauce tastes so much better. One supposes that she could have made cranberry jelly at home. My grandmother knew how to make jelly and how to can. She taught my mom how to do it, like she taught all her daughters. I wonder why we always had it out of the can...

Maybe canned food was "the thing to do". Maybe it was considered upscale? Marketers certainly tried to convince people of that, by marketing "jelly services" to people in the 1950s.
