In 2004, my old workplace hired a temp...let's call him Carl. The workplace supervisors had bad things to say about his work ethic and skills, and he didn't seem a good fit.

Today, he's not only a full-time hire there, he's making about twice as much as I ever did while employed there.

While I am happy that Carl found his niche and a great job, it makes me unhappy and sad in other ways. No one at that workplace ever thought to promote me, reward me, or acknowledge the great work I did.

Worse, I fear that I've made terrible mistakes in my life, and working career, and that I'll struggle economically until I die. Never having the incredible security and acknowledge Carl has in his job.
