Washington, D.C., streetcar lines map from 1888. At this time, D.C. was still within the lines of the "Federal City" -- Rock Creek, Florida Avenue NW and NE (then called "Boundary Avenue"), 15th Street NE, East Capitol Street, and the Anacostia River.
Notice that the streetcar lines are mimicked by today's Metrorail lines. And where thre is no Metrorail to take over a streetcar line, there's a bus line.
