Poor Godzilla undergoes "the change" again (!) in 1995's Godzilla vs. Destroyah.
Toho wanted very much to end the Godzilla franchise, which was clearly wearing out. They brought back Momoko Kōchi as Emiko Yamane, the heroine from the 1954 film (she was 63 and suffering from cancer).
The concept was that Godzilla's nuclear guts had been damaged during his battle with SpaceGodzilla the year before, and now he is "melting down". His destruction will definitely destroy whatever nation he's in at the time (is there any chance this might not be Japan? no), and may destroy the whole Earth. So scientists begin working on the "oxygen destroyer" that was used in 1954. But in their search, they uncover Precambrian animal life that has been mutated by the oxygen destroyer back in 1954 -- and which is turning into the creepy crab-like creature Destroyah!!!
The military must allow Godzilla to kill Destroyah, in the hopes Big G can do this before he goes "boom!"
The film involves the heart-rending death of Little Godzilla. This "Godzilla Jr." -- an unmutated godzillasaurus -- appeared in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah in 1991, and had become a fan favorite. He was brought back in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II in 1993, and although his appearance changed (being quite cartoony in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla), fans loved him.
But poor Godzila Jr. is killed by Destroyah!!!!!!!!!!! :_(
