Odo and the Female Changeling merge forms on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. My friend is watching the show only now, 15 years after it left the airwaves...

The character of the Female Changeling was never named on the show. The writers felt that Changeling culture contained elements of individuality but also a corporate personality. Since Changelings spend much of their time merged in a "Great Link", where they communicate by thought rather than speech, there is no need for names in Changeling culture.

Linking with Odo deepens Odo's appreciation of his native culture and Changeling culture, and undermines his loyalty to the Federation. Yet, it also provides him with a unique insight that helps bring the Changelings to the peace table.
