I rewatched some of the original 1978 Battlestar Galatica and thought we should talk...

Battlestar Galactica's rebooting in 2006 in a Sci Fi Channel mini-series led to a significant reimagining of the main villains, the Cylons. The change was largely due to technology, to wit, CGI. Instead of men in suits, you could get spindly things of steel that could cut through human flesh like a mandolin through soft cheese.

When the spin-off show, Caprica aired, the decision was made to feature the "birth of the Cylons". The BSG mini-series contain an homage to the 1979 TV show by depicting the Galactica as a ship about to be decommissioned and turned into a museum. One landing/launcing bay was turned over to depictions of the Cylons and their spacecraft -- and this scene inlcuded original models of the Base Star and Cylon Centurion from the 1979 show.

To link the 1979 show with Caprica, a CGI "original model" Cylon was developed that echoed the 1979 show's design much more closely.

Let's not go here.... it was a neat idea at first, but bogged down later as the show neared cancellation.
