There's a time travel movie coming out soon, and that got me to thinking of some of my favorite time travel episodes of TV shows or movies.
"Timeless" is a fifth season (1998) episode of Star Trek: Voyager. It's a kind of reverse-time travel episode, providing a neat inversion of the typical "we go back in time" trope.
In this case, Commander Chakotay and Ensign Harry Kim are in the future, where they've discovered the USS Voyager locked beneath the snow on an ice planet -- the crew dead.
Voyager had stolen a "quantum slipstream drive" from the Borg and installed it. But since the drive is unstable, the Delta Flyer (a shuttlecraft) with Kim and Chakotay aboard is sent ahead to send course corrections to Voyager in an attempt to keep things working. The attempt fails -- sending the Delta Flyer to Earth, but causing Voyager to crash-land.
Using Borg nanoprobes taken from the dead body of Seven of Nine, and with the assistance of the revived Emergency Medical Hologram ("the Doctor"), Kim and Chakotay intend to send signals back in time which will allow the slipstream drive to function properly. But Starfleet sends the USS Challenger -- commanded by now-Captain Geordi La Forge -- to stop them from messing with the timeline.
The episode opened with this great CGI shot of Voyager crashing in the snow, to everyone's horror.
