Standing on the Virginia shoreline looking east as they build the Arlington Memorial Bridge. Taken in winter 1928.

The bridge has reached Columbia Island. But the island hasn't been built up yet (with dredged material) to the level they need.

In the center foreground, you can see the wood form that is the beginning of the short bridge that will cross over the Boundary Channel and allow traffic to reach Memorial Avenue and the gates of Arlington National Cemetery.
